Mayflower Pool is approximately 10 acres in size and situated around 30 miles south of Limoges. Over half of the lake is treelined and offers many margin features throughout.
The lake bed is soft silt with no weed and there are many harder areas and holes which have been created by the feeding carp. Depths range from up to 7 feet in depth at the dam wall end and down to two feet in the shallow end. There are 7 swims and also two doubles, so there is always opportunity for anglers to move around during their stay.
The lake is well stocked and so huge catch reports are common. A 20 catch haul for the week is common and some lucky anglers have had 50+ fish to themselves during their week.
The fish like to move around the lake and are often caught during the sunny days in the shallow end of the lake. Don't be put off with the depth as 50lb+ carp have been caught in just 18 inches of water. Margin spots around the tree lined areas of the lake always produce and fish are also caught in open water. All of the swims produce.
Due to the soft silt many anglers have success with a balanced hook bait such as a wafter or snowman presentation. Ronnie rigs are also certainly worth a go. A good bed of bait Is recommended and often anglers would go through 20+ KG of boilies in a week. A combination of crushed, chopped and whole boilies with some particles that we provide on-site are proven winners. We have a range of liquids to compliment the range, please see our bait page for more details.
When it comes to carp fishing holidays in France, our mission is to see guests catch throughout their week and not to sit behind motionless rods all week. Large hauls are very common at Mayflower Pool. Add this in to the peace and quiet you are guaranteed in the remote surroundings, we offer memorable carp fishing in France.
We have invested heavily since 2021 to upgrade the swims and facilities at the complex. Over 100 tonnes of hardcore has been applied to the swims and paths to eliminate any chance of boggy swims and paths. We have also upgraded the lodge by doubling its size and there is now a cooker, fridge, freezer, charging facilities, tea and coffee making facilities, sink, shower and toilet.
We now have power available in the swims for the 2024 season. This is in the form of digital charging stations which are topped up via the large solar panels in the swims. This will ensure that you have enough power to charge devices and batteries during your stay. Please note that this is not to run appliances and continuously drain the batteries. Misuse will result in guests paying to replace any damaged batteries.
We are fully aware of some competing lakes who offer on-site accomodation, hot tubs, swimming pools, and everything else that is as far away from carp fishing as possible. Therefore if you are looking for luxury accommodation for your partner and kids, this probably isn't the place for you. We have a beautiful lake in stunning surroundings and we will forever be a fishing venue before anything else.
Lots of open water to go at in the top, shallow end of the lake. The carp like to frequent this end of the lake during warm weather. Options to access the main bay of the top end and entrance into it. Depths range from around 4ft down to just 18" in the bay margins. A good opportunity to survey large areas of water for feeding carp. Solid PVA bags can be a real winner here.
Access to the central part of the lake as well as access to the opening of the large shallow bay of the lake. This swim also has access to fish the tree lined margins down the side of the lake. Plenty of options to choose from and could also be used as a double swim.
The swim next to the lodge. This is at the dam wall end of the lake and has access to the deeper section of the lake including the tree lined margin along the dam wall. Depths can range from 5ft to 7ft in places. Can be a good holding place for carp in the tree lined margins down the right hand side as well as to your left.
A double swim which offers many options. This consists of a bay to the immediate left as well as access to the tree lined margins all around. Often carp will enter and feed in the small bay and this could be worth a couple of hours stalking when conditions dictate. With many over hanging trees and access to the monk system in front to the left there is lots to go at including open water.
Central area of the lake offering a large area of water. A good area to bait heavily and intercept roaming carp moving between the shallow and deeper ends of the lake. Can produce big hits if you get the baiting pattern right.
Another central area of the lake offering lots of water and entrance into the large shallow bay end of the lake. Again, a good opportunity to bait heavily and target the roaming fish moving around the lake.
Another swim with lots of options. This provides access into the end corners of the lake and is only 18" deep in some areas, although 3-4 feet in th main part of the area. A very popular swim and the carp gather here in numbers during warm weather. Options into the far corner margins and across the bank line opposite. Can be prolific in the right conditions.
We now have a newly refurbished lodge to offer our guests a more comfortable stay. We now have in place a cooker, fridge, freezer, charging points, tea and coffee making facilities, sink, shower and toilet. We have l digital power stations available to use in swims for charging devices.
